Donna S. Finley Student Award for Excellence in Leadership

From 1999 to 2004, Donna was President & CEO and Chair for each of the three volunteer Boards of Calgary French & International School. She was the driving force behind CFIS’s new vision and transformation that included the financing and construction of a $20 million facility and campus completed in 2005.

In recognition of Donna’s extraordinary leadership and contribution, the Donna S. Finley Student Award for Excellence in Leadership was first awarded in June 2005.

This award is presented annually to one CFIS graduating student who demonstrates exceptional leadership skills and qualities.

The Calgary French & International School is Alberta’s top-ranked French immersion school and an average of 9th among the over 500 schools measured in the province. www.cfis.com

2017 Award Recipient Cloey L. (photo below)

Cloey L. has participated in track and field, acted as the junior high track and field coach for throwing events for three years, served many roles in the musicals, including backstage manager, and participated in Model UN for three years. She received numerous awards including the Trilingualism award in 2015, Spanish 20 award, FLA 20-1 award and most improved player in the jazz band for two years. She also received an honourable mention for leadership skills in athletics in 2016. Accepted into the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and University of Alberta, Cloey chose the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint Jean to pursue a double bachelor’s degree in secondary education and biological sciences with a minor in mathematical sciences. Her studies will be in French. Teachers are proud of Cloey’s excellent personal and academic growth. She has been at CFIS since Grade 4.
